The Christian Association of Young People of Hamburg (CVJM) was founded in 1890. Its work is based on the principles governing the global YMCA/CVJM community.

Membership is open to all. Women and men, young boys and girls from all peoples, denominations and social classes form the worldwide fellowship in the YMCA.

As a non-profit association, the CVJM Hamburg represents a liberal and cooperative community spirit and is open to people of all ethnic backgrounds and religions. The various departments, groups and facilities of the CVJM Hamburg are dedicated to working with children and young people, organising trips and training young youth leaders. A large part of the association’s work is self-determined and voluntary, with young people and young adults working in an honorary capacity. Apart from its social commitment, the CVJM in Hamburg is also well-known for its impressive building. Rooms in this Wilhelmine-style villa on the banks of the Outer Alster lake can be rented for seminars, meetings and festivities.

The CVJM Hamburg is independent and democratic. It is neither part of any church, nor is it affiliated with any political party; religious beliefs or affiliation with any religion are not a precondition for active participation in the CVJM. The association is pleased to welcome all people who are interested in joining. Its work is based on the conviction that acting together unleashes a special and important force and that every individual is capable of making a valuable contribution to a life well lived.
